Have a look at this relation <http://ra.osmsurround.org/analyzeMap?relationId=1860446> and follow its course on satellite photos. You will see that it is nearly completely still "there", not as railway, obviously, but as vegetation, as embankment, as bridge heads, as buildings (that now have a different use), as paths, as tracks, as roads, as foot-cycle-ways, and combinations of these features. In addition there are a few pieces still with railway rails in use. I have provisionally tagged it as a site relation as it is, as a whole, a large structure, clearly visible, I suppose, even from the ISS.
