Interesting Kyle.

I note that the 'out of the box' k-factor wasn't identified in the table you've provided.  I'm guessing that the value is about 11.2 as that is the lowest value shown in this table.

I also note that what Travis was talking about was a dry-pendent ESFR, and none of the data sheets for those seem to have a similar table to the one you've copied for us.

28.2.4.10.3 states “flow from a sprinkler shall be calculated using the nominal K-factor except that the manufacturer’s adjusted K-factors shall be utilized for dry-type sprinklers.”

You are supposed to use what is on the data sheet for that particular sprinkler and length. For example, here is one from a Tyco data sheet:

Let me know if this comes through.

Since the connection point has a large opening and the “K Factor” has to do with the smaller opening size of the fire sprinkler itself then the “K Factor” should be added at the fire sprinkler head itself.

The K factor has to do with discharge, so it should be applied at the sprinkler, unless noted otherwise by the manufacturer. If they are to be taken at the POC, then the K factor would be modified per length of sprinkler in the literature. Kind of like how Autosprink does it.

Is the k-factor for a dry sprinkler to be applied at the sprinkler, or at the point of connection to the piping network?  I understand things like the Victaulic Dry Flex sprinkler have the k-factor at the POC.  What about all other dry sprinklers?  POC or sprinkler orifice?
