Icynene foam perhaps, is now sold by Huntsman. There are a number of formulations but they are all a foamed plastic. According to the ICC ESR-1826, https://huntsmanbuildingsolutions.com/en-US/sites/en_us/files/2023-02/ESR-1826.pdf, all of the Huntsman Icynene product line has to be covered or encased within an assembly to have any kind of fire resistance rating.
Plastic foams burn pretty well, with a bunch of bad smoke to, so it is surprising you were unable to see that. Perhaps your sample had been coated with the required coatings listed in the ICC ESR-1826. The only foam I’ve seen that does not burn was a Phenolic foam panel. That is the foam that acid rotted out umpteen commercial building steel roofs because the water it absorbs becomes a super low Ph, like 2 or 3. If you run into a vendor of this, for example sold as HVAC duct panels, cut some small samples. Put one in a jar of water. In months it will gradually sink and the water ph will be 2 or 3. You will not be able to get a sample of this to burn using any practical means. It is surprising one sees these foamed plastics used exposed or hardly encased in an assembly in building construction even after we see numerous media coverages of high-rises quickly going up in smokey flames like dried out Christmas trees. > On Oct 2, 2023, at 5:53 AM, <[email protected]> > <[email protected]> wrote: > > I did that once when I was told , I think isonene or something or other would > not burn that was used in this application. > > It di dnot.
