My mail and web server generates about 10-20MB of traffic per month and is a far far more secure connection than my neighbor's connection which generates 100+MB of outbound traffic per day playing online multiplayer games. This person also connects directly to the cable box and refuses to run any kind of firewall. Since my ISP limits outbound bandwidth to 45KB/sec there is not much chance that I will ever host other sites or any high bandwidth activities. So what if I want to put a personal FTP/SSH server online. It's going to be too slow to do much other than back up a few files from work. A "commercial" account here is $299/month and nobody in their right mind would put anything important on a cable modem connection anyways. For that money I can get a dedicated server co-located on a OC3 connection with a UPS supply and a uptime number of 99.99% ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Perforce Software.
