Well, I will try your RPM for 2.60. Looks like I need 3 RPM files -- spamassassin-tools-2.60-1.i386.rpm, spamassassin-2.60-1.i386.rpm, and perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-2.60-1.i386.rpm.
Correct, and true for Theo's version as well. (The latter is what you get if you rebuild the RPM's from the stock tarball with "rpmbuild -ta".) The sub-packaging allows deployment with finer granularity, on systems where disk space might be tight. (Email server "appliances" come to mind.)
BTW, I'm running 2.60 on RH 7.2 with Perl 5.6.1-36.1.72 from RPM's built using the -ta switch. I'm not seeing your error message.
