This is really unacceptable.
Was there really a need for this rant ?
Yes, the viruses are annoying, but I think the SA developers have plenty to do as it is.
There is NO reason that this virus can't be filtered from this list - it is a simple regexp to get rid of it.
Sure, *once* you're aware of a particular new virus, and assuming that you have some kind of shell access to the mailserver. Since the list is run by sourceforge, that may not be the case.
It makes no sense that people who develop software like Spamassassin can't figure out how to stop a simple virus that ALWAYS has the same line of text plus an attachment with the same name from being repeatedly sent via the list. It's bad enough that the text comes through, as well as the inevitable autoresponses from all the ISPs -- but it is totally irresponsible that you guys are allowing the infected file through as well.
Well I belong to a lot of mailing lists, and I'm not aware of any of them that have actual virus scanning and blocking facilities. At the end of the day the responsibility for blocking viruses rests with YOU the end reader, not with someone else.
My systems virus scanner is blocking them just fine, thank you.
Is there an administrator or moderator for this list? Mailman has really easy filtering options, I'll bet my kids could figure it out.....
I bet your kids could do a better job of SpamAssassin too huh ? :)
You know the old saying, if you don't have something constructive to say......
Regards, Simon
