This is really unacceptable.
You could ask for your money back. :)
There is NO reason that this virus can't be filtered from this list - it is a simple regexp to get rid of it.
Sure. If you start to filter on one criterion ("known virus"), where do you stop? Do you want known spam to be filtered from the list as well? How about an EICAR signature that is included as an attachment or as in-line text? It would disrupt a lot of what goes on on this list...maybe less or maybe more than the auto-responders.
It makes no sense that people who develop software like Spamassassin can't figure out how to stop a simple virus that ALWAYS has the same line of text plus an attachment with the same name from being repeatedly sent via the list. It's bad enough that the text comes through, as well as the inevitable autoresponses from all the ISPs -- but it is totally irresponsible that you guys are allowing the infected file through as well.
Actually, it would be irresponsible if you opened the attachment. It is irresponsible to set up auto-responders willy-nilly. When you stop and think about it...it is irresponsible to allow spam traffic to pass via an ISP. Then, we wouldn't need this list at all! Problem solved. We can all go home now.
Is there an administrator or moderator for this list? Mailman has really easy filtering options, I'll bet my kids could figure it out.....

Read the headers, or the subscription info that was sent to you. Bet your kids could figure that out too! :)
I'm outta here. Everyone have a great weekend. Try not to think about spam, spammers, virii, auto-responders, and smart-aleck people like me.
