Need to get spamassassin working system-wide with:

qmail (with the qmail-queue patch)
tcpserver
maildrop
sqwebmail (w/ vpopmail, but no virtual users)

All the docs I could find (including the archives to this list) say to use
qmail-scanner to use spamassassin with qmail. However, qmail-scanner
requires that you have spamassassin already installed and working before
you install qmail-scanner.

Sounds like a catch-22 to me, but I gave it a shot anyway. spamassassin
installed from FreeBSD ports with all the dependancies and no errors. I
then try to install qmail-scanner and get:

Something like the SpamAssassin spamc is present, but not working
  (didn't include a "X-Spam-Status" line in output) - ignoring...

In the syslog, I get:

Dec 2 19:39:18 new spamc[67271]: connect() to spamd at 127.0.0.1
  failed, retrying (3/3): Invalid argument

several times.

Lastly, the test procedure outlined in INSTALL works with no errors, but
the nospam.out shows 20 hits, and the docs state there should be no more
than 5. I dunno if this is the same problem, but I am a complete
spamassassin newbie and clueless.

Before I pull out more hairs, can somebody point me in the right direction
here? Some kindof qmail/spamassassin howto would be great.

Thanks!
