Gday,
When i first started to use VNC i was able to spawn a new desktop with
WinVNC server. I cant remember which version it was, but definetly wasnt
the current version. Im wondering if it is still possible to spawn a new
desktop on a WinVNC server with 3.3.3.r9. Ive read docs/faq and couldnt

Hi,
A time ago I tought it wasn't possible to use vnc as an application
server. But with a video driver you can
do great things.
One w2k machine can serv multiple vnc clients (with each running there
own application).
Changing the code of the mirror driver a bit, the driver is now running

Hi,
I am new to the list but let me get right to my issue. I setup VNC on
Windows 2000 server which also runs Terminal Server. I installed the
service, and the icon shows up. I went in and set a password. However,
whenever I try to connect with VNC viewer on another machine I get

the current structure of the registry-based configuration I suspect.
I will send you some comments outside the forum later...

You may not have a valid default password for the situation when your user
account is not logged in - this is a problem if you have run the service helper
stuff. Check that a password entry exists in the following registry location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3\Default

Ok, that's the problem then; it sounds like there is a problem with TCP/IP on
your network.

Alex,
Thanks for the reply. I checked it and it did say "no value set."
However, my attempts to follow what you said didn't work. So, I
uninstalled VNC, rebooted, and reinstalled. I can now get it tow work
if I don't run it as a service. The minute I install the service, I get
the same proble
The "Install registry settings" is not well-named. The particular settings it
installs are for user-mode helper operation - which is not what you want unless
you would like to have different passwords required any time a different user is
logged on. Here's what I would do.
(1) Go to the server

Alex,
Thanks for your help. We are narrowing it down. I've done what you
said, but when I start the service, it doesn't ask for my password, it
just starts. I then get the same message about no password from my
client. Are my registry settings corrupt? Can or should I delete them
and try the
Yes, let's try to cut to the chase and just reset everything in VNC; it might be
interesting to find exactly how it got in that state, but it will be frustrating
(and also pointless from your viewpoint, since it will be much faster to just do
it from scratch).
(1) Uninstall again from the server
Hi,
Since Xvnc builds the display of it own, then
which files does that function of building it in the
memory before sending out to the clients.

Alex,
Thanks again, I followed your instructions meticulously but still back
to square one. When I start the service, it doesn't ask for a password.
My hunch is that I will have to through in the towel on VNC. I just am
not convinced it works as a service in Windows 2000. If I run it
manually
Josh,
I'm going to do a roll-through on my other Win2K system just to verify this. I
have had no problems with running VNC on a Win2K server in precisely the fashion
you are talking about (for the same reasons), but I vaguely recall having to
jump through some hoops the first time I did it and I
