connection to see what's happening.
Open the command prompt, get into telnet, and type this:

ping 1.2.3.4
or whatever the server IP is. See if you get a response.

or LoopbackOnly registry entries (presuming your VNC server is on a
Windoze box) for VNC, *and* restart the server after you do that.
Then loop-back connections will be enabled.

I set up VNC to be able to access my desktop at home. It worked great for
about 1 month, and then I started getting the error:
ReadExact: Socket error while reading.
I can VNC to it from other machines on my LAN at home, and I can also VNC from

Thanks for the tips. I had the desktop locked and this was causing the
problem. In fact, just hitting ctrl+alt+del to bring up the options to lock,
logoff, etc.. killed my connection. I had someone at home try that while I
was attched from work.
