Mike, I suggest that you first take the SSH out of the picture to determine if you can connect to the localhost.
Once you make the registry change you need to stop and restart the WinVNC for the changes to take effect. If you are running WinVNC as a service, you will need to stop and start the service after the registry change. Once the changes have been made and you restart the WinVNC. Start the VNCviewer and type localhost in the VNC Server box and select "OK" If the password box pops up you know the local loop-back feature is enabled. I would suggest that you select "Cancel" to the password box or you will have a loop of windows pop up on your screen. I would test this out on both systems you are wanting to do the SSH port forwarding. To get the SSH port forwarding to work: On the system that you have the SSH client running, you can not have the WinVNC running at the same time unless you follow my suggestions below. When I have the WinVNC running, the SSH client will not create the tunnel because port 5900 is taken by the WinVNC. If you want the VNC Server and the SSH client running at the same time, you will need to do one two things. You need to make the WinVNC and the SSH client listen on different ports on the client system. If the WinVNC is set to listen on port 5900, you can set the SSH client to forward over a different port. If you do this you have to remember that the VNCviewer on the client system and the WinVNC on the server system also needs to be using the non-standard port. The other option is to have the WinVNC on the client system startup listening on a port other than the standard 5900 one. Then you can set the SSH to forward over the standard 5900 port. Again, if you need to connect to this WinVNC server, you will need to make sure the VNCviewer you are using is connecting to the WinVNC server on this non standard port. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions. My "server" is running on Windows 2000. But, it would be a great start if I could get it running using SSH on either 98, 2000, or Linux. I saw Joe Coyle's latest post concerning the registry entries and that sounded promising, but I still have no luck. I added those entries and it still doesn't work (giving the same error message as before). It is probably something stupid with SSH tunnel (outgoing) or other small option in VNC, but any more help would be appreciated. This is driving me crazy.
