I am using vnc with linux as the server and a windows
client. I can get the xterms to work fine, but I want
to run other applications in vnc, such as netscape.
When I try to run netscape in vnc, I get this error:

A lot of development distracting from the core requirement which is to
administrate a website! (no ftp either!), just port 25, 80, 81, NTACL.
I am not sure exactly how with the current version of VNC, what I use is
rather old (3.3.2 on Linux), so the details may be a little different.
Also, I don't run OpenView (no Sun), so the exact window manager invocation
may be a little different..
First, you would install both VNC server and VNC

I think what you may be after is a checkbox in the viewer options labelled
"Request Shared Session". All clients have to have this option checked.

I was a more-or-less contented user of VNC 3.3.3R7 for WinNT. When 3.3.3R8
came out with the socket leak fix, I was ecstatic until I discovered the
AuthHosts problem, so I installed 3.3.3R9 as soon as it was posted.
Unfortunately, I now get exactly 1 logon (reproduced across servers of

This is what I thought I knew already... but I still need to try and

using any GUI as my admin interface is just a web browser at the moment.

The fundamental nature of TCP/IP says that you CANNOT have two different

I need to set this up remotely and using the command line only.
I got the service installed and running on the webserver, but only have

I need to configure the VNC server just by using command lines.

Newbie question although I think I might know the answer.
Is it possible to copy files from one machine to another? It appears
that this can't be done from one mac to another. I have tried
turning on file sharing which does enable drag and drop but this
interface is so much nicer.

I could not find this in the FAQ and am a newbie to VNC and am wondering if there are
any mods to add a second password so the user can have one password and Admins
another. We do not want a user to have the admin password where they can go to
everyone else's machines. Any other password relate

I'm a bit confused here, and quite frustrated at Trividias non-existent
basic installation support.
I am administrator of a domain over 1000 miles away, and until today was
using PcAnywhere for remote access. Security policies dictated that pcA's
ports be closed so now I only have port 80 and 25
from the conrtib page on VNC's site there is a link to:

Here is a suggestion. Let your users run X, as they normally would, and run
a VNC client application on their desktop to connect to a VNC server (which

Free of charge, but non-redistributable.
It also unfortunately has the same name as the sftp that comes with
