Michael, DNS has nothing to do with whether or not a host supports to pings. Servers can accept incoming connections even if they are not pingable. It's most likely that you simply have a firewall between your viewer and server computers, and that it is blocking both pings and TCP/IP connections

Is the machine you're trying to make the connection from also on the LAN? The Befsx41 router doesn't allow that. It doesn't allow machines on the LAN to use the WAN IP to connect back to machines on the LAN. It should work fine if you try to connect using a machine that isn't on the LAN. O
