fsck failed with error code 4 on dev/mapper/fedora and suggestint to use

When I start one of my systems, sometimes it stalls, even using Esc to see
what is going on, I cannot enter the text mode.If I issue a Ctrl+Alt+Del,
it switches to text mode but it is so fast that I cannot read anything..
Any advice is appreciated (is systemd to be blamed?)

Switching from gdm to kdm makes screen power management not work, i.e.
after some time of inactivity screen becomes blank in gdm but not in
kdm

I have a laptop running Gnome + gdm or kdm
I have no screensaver either (I hate them) and no password in screen
blanking (idel time is set to 1 minute).
