It was NetworkManager!! I spent a week pulling out my hair trying
everything to get my BCM4312 to work on WPA2. The problem was the #$%^&
Gnome NetworkManager. I installed wicd (http://wicd.sourceforge.net/ and
the wireless worked the first time I rebooted. Amazing.

It would allow someone who steals my laptop to impersonate me on the
vpn. Is this fixed in the latest 9.04 release? Since we actually use
one-time password tokens, it actually locks me out of using the VPN
because it remembers the password. Three bad logins, and you get your
token locked.

Well, I tried. But I cannot get my MiniNote to boot off of the DVD. I looked at
the DVD, and it seems to have all the necessary files. I boot, hit F9, select
the DVD. It flashes for as while, but then I get booted off of the hard disk.

I can boot off of the old Ubuntu DVD, so something is wrong with the
9.04 beta distro. My burning program did check thye DVD after burning
too. And I made it from the ISO properly. The distro files are all there
on the DVD. But it seems to not be bootable.

The CD booted. But the B43 driver for my Broadcom card does not work at
all in LIVE mode. How is one supposed to install wireless drivers?
Installing the other driver requires a reboot, but I don't think this
would work in LIVE mode.
So impossible to test.

The problem must be in xorg.conf. The one that
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver.org
made had almost nothing in it (see attached xorg.conf.new).
But the old one had lots in it. I copied it to xorg.conf and rebopoted, and got
low graphics mode again.
And wireless is now still very dead.

I tried the patch in the openchrome directory and it seemed to work. But
remaking and reinstalling did not change anything.
Since it works with a totally plain xorg.conf file, there must be
something wrong with mine (the one generated by 9.04). But what is it?

Finally it worked :-)
The key was to tell me to change "via" to "openchrome". The instructions
say to change vesa, and there was none. Also, there are several Device
sections in the xorg.conf file, so I never knew which to change.
And I guess the version got updates since July 7 also. If not, the

I have similar issues on my HP mininote 2133.
I installed the files from the above repository. Now resolv.conf is OK for my
ethernet connection, but when I try (with sudo) to ping my router, I get

oops. I screwed things up. I added the interfaces to /etc/network.interfaces.
When I removed them, I reverted back to my old behavior, except that ethernet
worked on boot. nm-applet reappears.
But when I unplug eth0 and connect to the wireles, /etc/resolv.conf is blank
again

However, although eth0 works if connected on boot, after the above test,
I reinserted the cable. resolv.conf is correct. But ping yields
"operation not permitted" so I guess I am back to where I started.
