Booting off the Intrepid release Live CD, X came up just fine. Xorg
logfile shows my video card did not have known PCI ID so the vesa driver
was used instead of nv.
That's what I wanted so I think this bug can be called fixed.

wallpaper that does not reside in his/her home folder it may not work
depending upon how their system was set up.
For example I had a system where most of my image/music data was on a
separate mounted volume from my home directory.

volume up/down hotkeys. However I cannot change the volume with these
keys or have the mute state reflected by the volume control widget.

I do not believe this affects the GT series. My friend has GT version
of my card (same manufacturer) and has no problems. My card however
does not work unless I force X to vesa mode (or install the nvidia
drivers). Same problem in Debian too.

This has been annoying me for awhile but I worked out an alternate
method of doing almost the same thing. Press Super-E (super = windows
key) to enter Expose mode, then grab the window you want to move and
drop it onto another workspace. Double-click a workspace to get out of
Expose mode.

I am also getting this on 8.10 Live CD (release version). I have used 2
separate drives (an old 6x Sony CD drive, and a Samsung DVD/CD-RW). I
have attempted to burn the live CD using various speeds (using a debian
box to burn) but nothing has changed. Also fiddling with the PIO and
DMA settings

I was able to get Debian Sarge to install and boot on the laptop with
their 2.6 kernel (2.6.7 I think). However after boot I got lots of HD

J concur with Tarik's assessment that this only effects certain
hardware. My laptop has an Ali soundcard (using the ALI_5451 driver)
and exhibits this behavior. My desktop has a soundblaster live (uses the
emu10k1 driver), and after I upgrade it to Gutsy this morning it does

I survived my Gutsy upgrade with the "pci=noacpi" still on my boot line.
It's still required to boot. If I try to boot the liveCD without it I
just get lots of "Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0"
errors with is single "ide_media: main: unable to read from
/proc/ide/ide0/hda/media" am

The problem seems to be in the prerm script of the deb file. Instead of
removing /lib/linux-restricted-modules/.nvidia_new_installed it tries to
remove /lib/linux-restricted-modules/.nvidia_legacy_installed.

My video issues were fixed in Alpha 3 and unfortunatly I have been
pretty busy, so I've tested using Alpha 4. Sleep now works, but only
once. I press the sleep button on the keyboard and the computer goes to
sleep. Pressing the power button brings it back to the desktop with no

unbootable on my system. My system uses an nVidia card that does not
work with the nv driver (a bug was filed quite some time ago for this;

Basically (from what I found) the new X auto-detects (poorly) your video
and monitor configuration. Normally you could override the settings
with the Screen & Graphics doog
I can confirm this also happened to me when I installed fuse on my
laptop which had a fresh Feisty 7.04 install on. User and group of
/dev/fuse was root.

Did you mean "noapic" (without the "pci=") or "pci=noacpi"? There is no
"pci=noapic" option. I'm assuming the latter since you refer to IRQ

RAM). Everything appears functional.
I cannot recall which BIOS I am running. It has been ages since I last

Still an issue in Edgy release.
In other news I fiddled with running a custom version the 2.6.19 kernel
on a Debian install. I enabled the experimental libata driver for the
ali5229 IDE controller, which is supposedly a rewrite. Same issue,
though the printouts from the new driver may be useful,
Screen is still distorted for me on Fiesty Herd. I have a eVGA 6600 LS
(AGP). Though when trying OpenSuSE's Live DVD (v10.2) I did get the
desktop with no mouse cursor that the previous poster got (though no
system freeze).

I'm using Edgy. I've had this happen twice though I can't discern what
the cause is. It does not occur very often at all.
When it occurs, adding or removing "Monitored Resources" does not jog it

As of Feisty Herd 4 this still doesn't work. However after some hdc
interrupt lost errors (hdc is the dvd drive) it dumps into an initrd
console session. Never seen that before.
