I am also getting this on 8.10 Live CD (release version). I have used 2 separate drives (an old 6x Sony CD drive, and a Samsung DVD/CD-RW). I have attempted to burn the live CD using various speeds (using a debian box to burn) but nothing has changed. Also fiddling with the PIO and DMA settings in the BIOS as failed to solve the problem.
An interesting thing I noticed however is I get the same errors just inserting a the ubuntu CD while my system is running Ubuntu off the harddrive (this was a 8.04 install that was upgraded to 8.10 sometime in the alpha period). I also get a DBUS error too (see attachment). The CD does eventually get mounted, but it takes a while. >From dmesg after insertion: [ 334.700552] sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE,SUGGEST_OK [ 334.700564] sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Medium Error [current] [ 334.700570] Info fld=0x0 [ 334.700572] sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] Add.
