After a little further investigation, I have noticed that the shutdown error only occurs when using kdm. It also hangs the machine whilst logging out (rather than shutting down) whilst using kdm. If there are any further logs I can provide in light of this, please advise. cheers, dh On

I was able to solve this issue on karmic beta via other means... I found a K50alsa-utils symlink to /etc/init.d/alsa-utils in /etc/rc0.d/ and /etc/rc6.d/ . Once I redirected those symlinks to an empty file, my sound settings are correctly restored throughout the boot and login process. Not sure h
