This is definitely OT, however you can simply see what intel driver you have by issuing lsmod |grep iwl and then remove the listed module via rmmod (or modprobe -r) this way sudo modprobe -r iwl or sudo rmmod iwl then sudo modprobe rtl8187 BTW any chances to fix this bug in the backport
