Thanks for responding.
I will test this out when I download Karmic. In the meantime, I can report
that the problem doesn't occur in Jaunty, so I presume it will be ok in
Karmic too. (I was able to get Intrepid to work by forcing it to keep nm
0.6 .)

My Hauppauge HVR1700 works perfectly with Jaunty but not Karmic.
In Karmic the device is recognised and Kaffeine seems to be searching
for channels but finds nothing. I can also create a channels.conf using
scan. In Jaunty, VLC will work with channels.conf but not in Karmic.

Tested with all parameters as mentioned in the wiki page on the HP
EliteBook 8530p as follows:
- acpi=off: boots but no acpi functions

Correction: I think this is a problem with compiz. The problem happened
again withour rhythmbox running, and compiz crashed. Automatic report

With the PDF file, when I open it from a link in Firefox:

to apparmor/tunables/home and now it works like a charm. Thanks!
I already have texlive-binaries installed... wait a second..It seems the

I get a lot of CPU usage on startup, but this settles down, so not a killer.
The real problem is a gradual increase in memory usage. Each day it's more.

had been using Application Switcher in place of the default Unity
switcher. Somehow in the upgrade the keyboard shortcuts got reset, so

The main fix for me was to turn Xinerama off, but I did experience some
other weird stuff so effects are now off too .. I can confirm that with
Xinerama + Effect I was locking on average every 10 mins .. now, not for

Ok, I'm having what sounds like the same problem - I've used synaptic to
remove compiz (completely) and am still seeing the same issue. I can't
pin it down as nothing appears in the logs when it dies, however it does
seem to be sound related. (i.e. if I play music, I lock up pretty
quickly)

Ok, removed lots of other stuff completely, like vmware .. just had the
problem again and noticed this in the logs;
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
[mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.
So .. same problem.

Ok, I think I've found the cause .. looks like it could be the "Xinerama"
setting.
(i.e. graphics card independent)
This is going to hit anyone with more than one screen.
(anyone who's tried Twinview and Xinerama on a decent graphics card won't be
using twinview!)

There we go, I knew it wasn't just me getting pissed off with Ubuntu for

I found this file in the thunderbird folder so the following worked:
"MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/thunderbird monodevelop"
Unfortunately syntax highlighting is still not working but the warning
is gone :(
