This is the same problem .. try turning Xinerama off. One thing I have noticed, I DO get the lockups still on occasion, however they only last for 20 seconds and only affect ONE screen.

One thing I did notice is that when I move the mouse it sometimes changes to the icon for text input but this doesn't correspond to what is actually on the screen.
