It affects my system too. Intel T5550 with Intel X3100 graphics. I can
move the mouse cursor, but it doesn't change on hoovering different
things, it just stays what it was at the time of freeze.
I can login to my computer using SSH and it's looking more or less fine,
nothing jumps to my attention
I think this might be due to Glyph Fallback. Since Nimbus doesn't have
the required glyphs to print the Chinese characters, it's attempting to
use another font. It's not clear which font is being substituted, but
I'm suspecting that Mincho of some sort is being used. I think it's a
Japanese font
I've taken the trouble to make a fresh install on Virtual PC. I can
confirm that the problem still occurs and morover, can make the
Microsoft Virtual PC image available via FTP on request.

If I change the font to "WenQuanYi Zen Hei", the printout is fine - no
corrupted or missing characters are showing, as shown in the attached
photograph of the print out. The top sentence is an attempt to print in

Hi, thanks for the response. I just updated to Jaunty this morning, and
the problem is still occurring. So that's an upgrade from OpenOffice
2.4 to OpenOffice 3.0 too.

Hi everyone. I have the same problem with my Hardy on a Presario F562LA,
it just freeze completely after a random amount of time. For me, I have
notice that happens mostly when browsing the web in firefox. I tryed
removing the Nvidia driver I got with ENVY, and it seems to be working
normally again
No more hardware in common, as my wireless is a Broadcom 4311 wich I
finally manage to install with NDIWrapper. Could you please post the
results you get with the mentioned kernel update? I don't know if I'll
have time today to make the test but if I get some time I'll try with
that too and see how
Same here in Hardy on the MSI Wind. If I leave the laptop for a few
minutes, the screen darkens, but when the laptop is reactivated, the
screen reverts to maximum brightness ignoring the settings it previously
had.

I've got a Toshiba M110 and with previous Ubuntu releases the battery
was draining approx 30% overnight. I'm now running Intrepid (2.6.27-6)
and it appears now to be only 4-5% (this is however after starting the
laptop on only battery).

Hi, I seem to have this problem in my laptop, a Compaq Presario F562LA

Hi, I just wanted to add that today I tryed the Nvidia 173.14.05 driver
without any results, the computer hangs completly as usual. I had to go
back to the generic driver. I'm using kernel 2.6.24-19-generic. Have any

I'd agree that this should be changed. I use Windows every day at work
and when I get home and start using Ubuntu find myself pressing:
Windows R - to run an application (which ends up zooming in the screen for some
reason)
Windows D - to minimise windows
Windows L - to lock applications

I am running jaunty 9.04 2.6.28-15 with bluez 4.42 and still having issues.
tryied with several kernel ranging from 2.6.27-11 , 2.6.28-11 and 2.6.29.6 with
bluez 4.32 and bluez 4.42 having the same results.
Sometimes the dongle is well recognized and can pair, and transfer files, some

Same problem for me on a Toshiba Satellite A50.
Using the solution from the forum then nuked grub for me as the system
dual booted with XP.
I have had to completly knock lucid on the head because of this on this

There is the (now) obvious solution of removing the apparmor package
altogether, which is what I did. I'll have apparmor back when this kind
of issue has been resolved.

I can confirm that, as of 15/5/2010, this bug still remains in Ubuntu
10.04 (64-bit) with a fresh install. This is the official LTS release
of Ubuntu, not one of the betas. Definitely seems tied to Pioneer 218
drives because I tried swapping the drive for a different brand and the
problem went aw
pixel_juice is correct - there has been some improvement on this bug.
Inserting an audio CD no longer crashes Nautilus and the tracks are
playable too. However, sound-juicer still crashes on startup:

Hmm, my banshee can now play and import CDs, including CDDB lookup for
most albums. Sound-juicer and Brasero still crash though.
For what its worth, I'm running an Intel i7 CPU, a quad-core 920, on an
Gigabyte X58 motherboard.

wever, this is a real bug as far as I'm concerned, since
the prior release 9.04 had much a much better resolution with the exact
same hardware.
I'll sign up for the Lucid Beta when it is available. No more Windows
for me.

The balloon graphic when pressing the VolumeUp, VolumeDown, VolumeMute
buttons is showing up like static, it is to actully show a speaker with
a slider indicating how loud the volume is.
This also occurred when I VNCed in to my box (I've never did that before
