I get dozens of log messages per second into the ACPI log file:
DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Could not open network socket

I cleared all sessions as described here, not related to my user:

Try this:
Just check that gdm.conf-custom is not empty, if it is just copy the
contents of gdm.conf to it and save it. It worked for me and those
errors disappear, looks like somehow gdmsetup truncates to zero the file
gdm.conf-custom and then fails to load it and does't save it correctly
again.

Same happened to me. I think the problem lies in the reference to ldap
server.
With "pam_ldap.conf" my ref is a uri and works, but when I make it a
straight host name ref, then it hangs.

When removing ispell.mim from /usr/share/m17n scim will work again. I
suggest targeting the bug also vs scim-m17n and updating this packages
by removing ispell.mim.

Hmm, well to reproduce the problem I'd have to completely reinstall
ubuntu from the beta cd, and I can't really do that right now. :P
I didn't ask the restricted drivers manager to install anything though,
I just clicked "close". Are you sure the only time it locks the database
is when it's instal

update-manager --devel-release
and not
update-manager --devel -release
