Naturally, I found the report I knew I had seen before right after posting a new one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/147623 Allegedly it has just been fixed, too. Testing. (This can be closed, and perhaps I'll find out how to do that, too!)
