Public bug reported:
With an Nvidia 8800GTS (2.1.1, 100.14.19), both Gutsy and Hardy (beta)
display a blank screen after starting the system. The graphical splash
screen does not appear. The Gnome login screen also never appears, the
monitor (NEC 225WXM, 22") simply goes into idle mode after a few
minutes. Removing the boot options "splash" and "quiet" allows to boot
up the system. It is a Ubuntu specific trouble as other mainstream
distros don't show this behaviour on the same machine. (I thought there
was a bug report on this issue, but could not find it. If I missed it,
please merge this report.)
