I've had a similar problem with Brasero where it woudl create coasters
out of my blank DVD-R disks on my HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NS30. Dropping
the burn speed to x8 seems to have resolved the problem in 10.10.

Exactly the same problem here with Kubuntu 10.10, was okay with 10.04.
Pressing F9 brings up Places. F11 brings up Information, F7 brings up
folders, and F4 Terminal panel.
Selecting View > Panels shows no menu, just a little triangle as Joke de

I agree about this being a possible timing issue, yesterday upgraded to
10.10 on three PCs:
Dell Latitude 640C (P4M 2.4GHz) running Kubuntu - No problem
Athlon 64 Socket 939 x2 4200, with DDR RAM running Kubuntu 64-bit - No problem
Athlon 64 Socket AM2 x2 5600, with DDR2 RAM running Ubuntu 32-bit

advice downloaded xmltv-util_0.5.56+cvs20100328-1_all.deb, but could not
install via GUI installer or command line due to unmet dependencies.
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of xmltv-util:
xmltv-util depends on lib
Based on this bug, I've just decided not to upgrade to 10.04 until at
least 10.10!

My particular problem seems to be caused by the VIA VT8251 controller
causing errors on the SATA bus and the SATA bus dropping back to

Just updated Kubuntu 9.10 (64-bit) to latest kernel 2.6.31-17-generic
, now K3B just burns around half the disk and the DVD R/W drive drops out
totally, not even visible in Dolphin. The drive is brand new Pioneer IDE, just

Disabling the on-board Via-Rhine NIC and using the 3COM 3C905B PCI NIC
has resolved the problem. No timeouts and solid performance. Disabling
ACPI in the BIOS seems to be a red herring.
Therefore, to me suggests a driver bug which needs an urgent fix
especially as this chip-set is quite common.

A8V-XE, running same VT6102 Rhine II controller. Under heavy network

Latest version of of xsane on the Debian website is
xsane_0.996-1_i386.deb, this is the same version in the Ubuntu 8.10
repository as of today.
However, Xsane still freezes and then crashes X when I try to scan using
my HP ScanJet 7400c.
Looking at the Xsane website, 0.996 was released in Sept 20
