Confirmed problem on my Dell Inspiron 1545. This is using Karmic Beta with
updates to 10/16/09.
Under jaunty I was able to work around this issue partially with the following
Xorg.conf option:
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "Greedy"
However, this is no longer used by the intel driver.
lspci -v
The backports modules fixed it for me (or I should say it ran for 1 day
without seeing the problem - which is more than it had been running).
I will update again in a few days if it still hasn't occurred.

I found I can also get the X server to crash by doing the following:
Log in as primary user
Choose "Lock screen" option
Choose "switch user"
Once at login screen, hit CTRL-ALT-F2.
The x server crashes with the same syslog error:

I am seeing a problem (which may be the same). For me, X on Jaunty
(32-bit) does not exit any time I switch to TTY, but it does quit the
2nd graphical session I create when I switch back and forth between
users.
If I log in as myself, that session is always fine.
If I then log in as another user
This bug is no longer affecting me. After downloading several updates
to the Jaunty Alpha series, the VPN is working for me.

I seem to have gotten the internal bluetooth adapter working on my
laptop. Initially, I could not get my laptop to find the phone.
However, I did finally get my phone to find the laptop using the kde
bluetooth controlling software. This bug can be closed.

I confirmed the webcam works fine in 64-bit and 32-bit Jaunty alpha 6.
It just wasn't detected by the F-Spot program (which may not be designed
for use with webcams anyway). Feel free to close this bug report.

The new Inspiron 1545 seems to have a function key issue with Ubuntu.
The function seems to be inverted, where the F# keys only work when
Function is held down and the function items work when the function key
is not held down.
I tested this and confirmed the problem on 8.10
Here are the results from running 'showkey' for all my F# keys
The left column shows the key code when the Fn key is NOT pressed down
The right column shows the key code when the Fn key IS pressed down
Seems like they are opposite of what they should be.

OK, I'm an idiot. The function keys are working find. I didn't notice
on this laptop The F1, F2, etc. are actually supposed to be only
accessible with the Fn key. It works the same way in windows. Please
