Public bug reported:

The new Inspiron 1545 seems to have a function key issue with Ubuntu.
The function seems to be inverted, where the F# keys only work when
Function is held down and the function items work when the function key
is not held down.

I tested this and confirmed the problem on 8.10 live desktop cd and
Jaunty Alpha 5 live desktop cd.

Here is jaunty uname -a:
Linux ubuntu 2.6.28-8-generic #26-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 25 04:27:53 UTC 2009
x86_64 GNU/Linux

dmidecode output:
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dmidecode -s system-manufacturer

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
Inspiron 1545
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dmidecode -s system-version

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd

lspci output is attached.

I followed the instructions in
