Sorry for all the confusion regarding this issue. I finally got 8.10 to
load on my Inspiron by adding "acpi=off" to the boot options. I still
have issues with my wireless card which first appeared during a system
update which I later rolled back. Apparently, the inability to use my

I have an Ubuntu 7.04 alternate CD that I used to kick start my use of
Ubuntu. This CD recognizes the drive in my Inspiron and successfully
performs a full CD scan without issues. I have also burned a CD and
read it back with no issues. Therefore, the hardware is working fine.
The problem appear
I have downloaded and attempted to run Ubuntu Intrepid alpha 6 on my
Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop. The OS locks after displaying the following
5 times: "end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1425128" and "Buffer
I/O error on device sr0, logical block 178141". I have successfully
booted the CD and

reboot was performed and my Linksys wireless card is no longer
recognized. The active LED does not come on during startup. Dropped

Since encountering the problem with update-manager I have indeed
installed and removed applications. Removed a firewall and installed
Java. No problems encountered with either of those. I do have
considerable programming experience but it's all with Windows. My
experience with Linux is limited
I have had no problems running the add/remove software application which is
about the only other application I have had occasion to run that requires admin
rights. The problem seems to only occur when I click on the updates are
available icon. I'm not sure if there is a difference in how this

document has failed to convert to rtf. I have tried copying the original
problem document in 5 chunks and converting and all chunks convert
