Not sure why but by opening Nvidia's settings application and clicking
'keep settings' even though I changed nothing, Compiz is now working
again. Must have just been a misconfiguration.

I've found you can boot to GUI if you install the Nvidia driver. The way
I did this was download and save to usb drive the driver from
ftp://download.nvidia.com and then log in as the user ubuntu, mount the
drive and then install. I think this bug for me has something to do with
the fact nv doesnt

On the live CD the username is ubuntu and there is no password just
press enter when it asks for one. Im having the same problem. Below is

Similar bug on a Dell C640 using Intrepid Alpha 6 although this worked
fine in Gutsy and Hardy. Brightness just can't be changed either with
the hotkeys or using the panel applet.

Agreed this is definately a problem. It took me about a minute, moving
the mouse millimeters at a time, to choose my city. Compared to Gutsy's
two clicks taking a couple of seconds in total this is terrible.
