When I am not dialed out netscape does not start immediately...it takes hell
of a long time to start...But the same when I am dialed out it starts up in
a second...
Why this wierd behavior with netscape..??

Netscape is always slow to start
When I try to shut down my mailserver AMD K6-II/400, Soyo 5EH motherboard,
ram 64MB, disk 30GB, RedHat 6.1, it freezes right after "starting killall".
That means the UPS cannot protect the system on longer power failures.
And the e2fsck on 30GB takes more time than my patience can take.

Nope.. PAM still allows empty passwords. I just tested it on a fresh RH
6.1 install, and all is fine.
PAM has an options so that it will reject a empty passwd, which in my
opinion should be te default..

You're in a directory that the user you're trying to su to doesn't have
access to.

Once a while(in 2months !! :) my kde just freezes no response at all, The
mouse cursor moves but rest is all just frozen..
I noticed this happens when I move the mouse to the extreme right corner of
the screen or something like that...I am not too sure though..

I fixed a KDE freeze a couple of days ago in Raw Hide - should be fixed in
6.2.
You might want to try downloading the qt and kde*
is it 4.7?? it is slower then hell for me to , to open that is older
versions worked fine

o is to add the hosts it looks for to your hosts file, and just have a

THanks for the reply. I tried and it didn't work. The strange thing is
that all other services like ftp and http work fine. I even checked the
inet.conf and telnet is not disabled. Any suggestion of other possible

jsp/servlets etc thro a jdbc driver and have had no problems..

many things at once and I totally hosed lilo on my Toshiba Portege. It can't
boot: "cannot find setup signature."
I've spent the weekend trying to "rescue" it, but without success. I can't

For ease of use, i'd suggest installing wu-ftp. All configuration
can be done from linuxconf and is easy to understand if u know the
general concepts of ftp.
Also, if ftpd is already installed you might want to check
/etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny and make sure they're set up
to accept ftp
