When I try to shut down my mailserver AMD K6-II/400, Soyo 5EH motherboard, ram 64MB, disk 30GB, RedHat 6.1, it freezes right after "starting killall". That means the UPS cannot protect the system on longer power failures. And the e2fsck on 30GB takes more time than my patience can take. How can I

For ease of use, i'd suggest installing wu-ftp. All configuration can be done from linuxconf and is easy to understand if u know the general concepts of ftp. Also, if ftpd is already installed you might want to check /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny and make sure they're set up to accept ftp
