On the desktop you need to run xdm. You can put it in /etc/rc.d/*
somewhere.

On the laptop, you login in text mode and run "X -query xxx.xxx.xxx.xx"
where xxx... is IP address of the desktop. Or you can run "X -broadcast"
to get a list of servers "willing to manage" your laptop screen.
