Thanks for all the great tips and advice. I did get some hammer gel,
my daughter also said it works but I will stick to my regular foods
and pace.

okay then Rob, my comment about the BBQ beef sandwiches is applicable
- they are sold at Centralia. If you are planning to stop right
around there, go ahead and enjoy one (they TASTED wonderful), but if
you've got 100 more miles to go, the next 20 will be... interesting.

I love this list. Just gotta say. :)
For my ride this weekend (the STP, 2 centuries over 2 days) I'm going
to stick to PB&J sandwiches, HEED for the first couple hours after a
big breakfast, Perpetuum and Hammer Gel and Bars after that, along
with good real food as I see it along the way--j
The sesame crepes from TJ are really good. They fit the 250 calorie/hour
rate nicely, too.

Eating - I try to get something relatively substantial down every 20
miles or so (plus drinking water and Gatorade. Gatorade works for
me. YMMV.)
Eating - rye-molasses muffins with a big pat of butter. ZOMG! Hard
boiled eggs. Sweet Salty Peanut Bars. Gel (Hammer, Clif Shot. With

Kinda depends on hard you're going - but I subscribe to the 250
calories per hour during brevets or hard riding. For me, that comes
in a variety of forms: Perpetuem, almond butter/honey packs, Payday
bars, etc. When off the bike, I like to eat real food - but not too
much. 'Fiend mentioned Bovin

I'm a firm believer in eating actual food when riding. But a friend

Agreed.
Don't do anything new to your bike.
Don't do anything new to yourself (food, liquids). Do what you always do.
I ride 50 - 100 miles on a regular basis with 2 bottles of water and 2
bananas.
Having said that, I ride mostly in the morning ~ 4:30am when it is not hot.
Actually I just rode
Another hydration tip - if you don't have to pee at some point during
the ride, you're not drinking enough.
Good luck and good tailwinds!

I have no advise, but I can offer some advice:
avoid synthetic food & supplements [it's the equal of wearing lycra or
spandex on your outsides] in your insides; bananas/sunflower seeds/
walnuts & avocados do fantastic things; drink water before thirst
kicks in [as said many a time already]; don't

The only change I'd make to Ryan's advice is to drink before you get
thirsty. I know that if I wait until I'm thirsty I

+1 on Horace's advice and that includes doing anything to your bike or
gear. I once replaced the insoles on my bike shoes before a Seattle
to Portland ride- I had such a hot foot midway through day one that I
ditched the insoles entirely and rode the second half of the ride with
none. DOH

Also, don't try anything new the day of the event -- don't eat or
drink anything you haven't already had on a training ride.

+1 on Perpetuum. I just discovered the Hammer stuff. Has worked well
for me on a few long rides so far...and hope it will work well on the
STP this weekend. I pack a peanut butter, cheese and honey sandwich,
and drink the Perpetuum from one bottle and plain water or HEED in the
other. I hav
