I always thought of 584/650B as a way to get more tire in the right
frame size with all the right clearances for fenders, etc. more than
any other reason. And that especially for smaller sizes that even
smaller wheels - 559/mountain bike size or - in my wife's case, for
her mountain bike, 507/24" (

Why are 650B tires better rolling and smoother than 700c tires, all things
else being equal? If I understand wheels, the bigger the diameter, the
smoother the ride.
I can see going with smaller wheels for greater strength but I believe

the Dia Compe 750 centerpulls that Riv sells. I don't know how many of

amount of bulging in the rim wall by each spoke which is why it wears

I've seen this before on Matrix ISO rims in the 80s. They came dark
anodized. Over time, the dark anodizing wore off at each spoke
location. This process took years and even when worn there was only
mild bumpiness when braking. If these are fairly new rims, I suspect
a rim problem more

Forgot to talk more about bar height and comfort. On my 3 road bikes, I like
a lowish bar position for various reasons: wind efficiency -- it's windy
here; power -- bending over gives noticeably more power; even comfort, since
the hooks provide a position that, at least for periods up to 15 minutes
