Earl and Garth: thanks for the information. We'll see about the Kendas; or
perhaps I should ask my brother, Peter, in LA, for some wider tires -- he
has masses of bike stuff.

I need to put more miles on the bike. Though I bought it expressly for
touring -- I wanted a touring bike capable of a load but not built super
stout like the Atlantis ... and at least in that category it works well. I'm
going to swap out the Noodles for as-wide but shorter, shallower drops;
perhaps that will help as well by slightly reducing the reach.

I think part of the "problem" is simply that, with the bars higher (for long
distance comfort -- more on this below) I have less weight on the front
wheel than I am used to with bars 4-5 cm below saddle.

Again, the "problem" is not a huge one; just surprising from my experience
with three other Rivs. Perhaps simply riding the SH more will make it grow
on me: I've only put 200 miles or so on it so far.
