Hi all. I just installed the new Gran Compe mini-rack that works with the Dia Compe 750 centerpulls that Riv sells. I don't know how many of people actually use these brakes on their Rivs, but I have them on my Quickbeam. So, I was happy to hear that Velo Orange is now importing a rack to fit these brakes. Here are some pics:
http://tinyurl.com/24yykp5 The GC mini-rack is similar to the Mafac mini-rack. It's small (135mm x 70mm platform with 80mm high back-stop) and mounts directly to the brake pivot bolts and fork crown bolt. The pivot bolts on my centerpulls are about 68mm apart and the rack struts mounted to them just fine. Also, the rack tab that extends from the platform to the fork crown bolt fit the horizontal depth of the brake without any bending needed. The rack tab extends about 32mm past the pivot mounting struts. In my case, the rack mounted fairly parallel to the ground. One thing I noticed is that the backstop rises straight up, instead of angling back slightly, like most of the Nitto front racks I've seen. So far, I've only ridden it a couple of times with a tool pouch lashed to it. I plan on trying out an Acorn Boxy rando bag on it, to see how well it supports a load of that size. In any case, I'm a front loader, so I appreciate the feel of that extra weight up front. Also, I opted for the mini-rack as for most of my day rides I just need enough space to carry my usual gear: tool pouch, first aid kit, spare tube, cell phone, cash, a couple of snacks, and an extra layer. I guess I'm a bag- half-empty kinda guy cause when I see these things taking up only half of my Acorn bag, I do have a tendency to think a) let me throw a few more things in here or, b) I need a smaller bag. Anyway, just wanted to share in case anyone else uses the 750s. Oh yes, the tag that came with the rack said they should also work with the Gran Compe 610 centerpulls.
