did some fooling around with things and discovered the problem is with my
antenna. I have an extra one here so I put it in the system and the
receiver worked well. So I have ordered a new antenna and a longer cable.

I had been reading, on various lists, about the inaccessibility of
xm radio online, so I never bothered with the free three day trial. Now,
however, that it is included free with an xm subscription, I thought I'd
try to struggle with getting it to play on my laptop a
Satellite radio for me is the best entertainment buy I've ever made.
Nothing on AM or FM even comesclose.
Having a chance to tap into 60 commercial free music styles, plus over 3
dozen talk formats is a real eye-opener.
I spent $50 for one radio, and $49 for the other one.
