That's because, after all, FM is only a 15khz audio signal, whereas
thec compact disc spec goes up to 20khz.  Ditto the dynamic range
factor--well over 90dB with CD's; less than 80dB with FM radio, even
with the best, least-obnoxious signal processing.  Remember, 10dB
difference is really 100 times difference because your ears are
logarithmic, not linear.  That's why linear volume controls don't seem
to have much affect at certain points in their travel from softest to
loudest.  ...  Or have I gotten that backwards?
