I think the big problem with 3D touch that the author of that article points
out, is that it is not easily discoverable. Apple has violated one of the basic
rules of UX design, discoverability. Reading weather 3-D touch is available
once doesn't cut it. You might forget if an app has it or not.

I am planning to restore from an iTunes backup. I have everything all backed up
and ready to go. If you plan on having your new one set up a lot differently
from your old one, you might not want to do that.
