Well, I certainly can't speak to the merits of open book, as I have been a K
1000 user for many years. However, unless you use some of the many specific
features that are unique to K 1000 and possibly open book, I'm just not sure,
your funding organization might be better off paying for Abby fine reader for
windows. I understand that it is very accessible and is more full-featured then
the version for the Mac. Again, since I have used K 1000 for many years on
windows, I have no personal experience with this program. But other people I
know who are blind have said that if what you want to do is scan and read, or
turn PDF documents into something readable, that Abby fine reader is very
accessible on windows. You could save your funders a whole lot of money if that
is really all you want to do, i.e. you don't need bookmarks, study tools,
access to things like Wikipedia, dictionary at Cetera.
