Hi Simon, The keyboard is macally ikey ltII. I'm on it some months ago on Amazon. I don't remember what it cost. What I really like about it is the full complement of control command and option keys on both sides of thespace bar. Belkin makes one, but it does not have that full complement. And no, sadly, you cannot disconnect the cable from the keyboard. Mary
