If you get info (command-I) on a video file there is a section called "Open With" and under that is a popup where you can pick which player you want to open that file. You can pick VLC and you're all set but after that popup you'll also find a button that says Change All.

Playing Music on my iPhone with VLC

Hi all. I downloaded the vlc app (it's the first one (vlc fo iOS) last night and am very happy with it but I have a question. I can easily download music from dropbox and have it open in the vlc player on my iPhone. But in some cases this means I am taking up space with music twice since

Um.. Nope! I tried the plug in yesterday and it’s not mavericks compatible. I also tried something called ogg drop which also turned out to be non mavericks compatible. I just got another suggestion from somebody about vlc itself, so will try that. If that doesn’t work for us, guess I’ll just
