Make sure it is a “powered” hub.
Most external drives require more power than can be provided by a passive,
non-powered hub.

There could be a number of things. The age of your Mac, the cord, or the drive
itself. If yours is an older Mac though, that is most likely the issue. Restart
your mac and then plug in the drive. When you open it, give the drive a couple
minutes to load. There could also be a formatting issue.

Hi. If you have a bootable drive, you can boot from it by going into
system preferences and selecting the drive in startup disk. Or, hold
down the option key when you hear the chime when restarting the
machine. This will give you a list of available devices to boot
from;internal hd, superdrive etc.
Dear List I wondered if anyone knows of a podcast or tutorial on how to create
a bootable drive and then get the mac to boot from the external either a clone
or set up from scratch.

Hi, Yes it has happened before, no reply.
No matter i just bought a wd my book live 3 tb nas with internal 3 tb drive.
Hopefully my problem swill be gone now especially since i will be getting a
macbook air soon which only has 2 usb slots. And i no longer will have to worry
