It confirms that xz is available (and probably used already).

Not 100% sure, but I think LZMA is used. Unfortunately, I can't find the
scripts that are used to generate the (L)Ubuntu images - I'm looking for
this for weeks now! :-)
I think, Julien has done the best possible, so that seems to be a dead end.

Yea that is possible, but would be an unofficial respin.

Hi James,
the release team had promised to keep PPC alive as it is part of the server
system that is still supported. As a very basic explain, there is PPC
server which will be supported and developed for IBM servers etc. When all
the other flavours agreed to drop 'alternate' installer, it was que

I'll try the alternate when I get back to my studio this weekend. (I'll
also burn the desktop installer to a DVD to be sure it works, too.)
Since a lot of Mac Mini users have just the SuperDrive that only burns CDs,
the alternate will probably see more use this time around.
Is there a way to make
Hi folks,
Julien has trimmed the desktop installer of PPC to the absolute minimum but
it still refuses to become CD sized. The alternate is CD sized, there is
really nothing he can do to further reduce the desktop version. It should
continue to logged as a bug and whilst this battle for 13.10 may
Hi Nio,
Thanks very much for the good instructions!

zram-config to switch it off completely and persistently.

Hi Keith,
that looks good so far, seeing zram0 and zram1 still there we are thinking
is a separate bug. Getting the system able to install is currently priority
#1.
I've still got 45 mins to go before I can start testing the
ubuntu-desktop-amd64 ISO and see how it plays out.

Phill.
Hi Phil,
First, cut to the chase; the installation succeeded. Here's what I did:
I attempted the same installation as before--automatic resize option
from the [PPC] Live iso using a usb flash drive.
Used boot parameter "live video=radeonfb:1920x1080-32@60" to boot the

Keith,
such information would be really handy as we have to write up some release
notes for the known bug for when 13.10 final-beta comes out on Thursday.
With the fix from upstream only currently available in amd64 for the 'it
freezes at the end of instal' section, which does not solve a further
