I agree with the fact that if u limit the connections to the modem it will
be the start of protecting it but...
ANYONE who will access your modem, meaning he has to break into the "server:
first and from it access the modem, can control it and one of the basic
things he can do is make it unusable

Hi,
well, I looked a bit deeper into the problem, and found out that it has
nothing to do with biditext (it also crashes without using biditext), it
only happens on GTK+ apps, and only in some dialog boxes (not all).

As I said before: both of biditext and gtkbidi use fribidi, and fribidi
uses glib. Maybe fribidi fails to use the existing glib. Try rebuilding
fribidi.
I would also like to know if rebuilding fribidi is enough (that
is: assuming that rebuilding frbidi solves the problem: will it work with

I asked this a couple of days ago and didn't get an answer, so I'll re-phrase
and ask again. I was about to upgrade from Mandrake 7.2 to 8.0 when I read the
following message from Hetz which sort of **scared me off**. Since no-one
answered when I asked if anyone else seen this problem, can I assum

you can use the linkname option in pppd.
pppd will create a dynamic name (such as ppp0, ppp1, etc) but you
could find it's pid info from /var/run/pppd-.pid and the

Hi there. Redhat mirrors (7.0 and 7.1) are alreadya avaliable at
ftp://ftp.huji.ac.il/. Why not rely on that ? They produced Moshe Bar after
all and have been mirroring RH for a number of years now !!! And thus
release the needed disk space for Mandrake on Iglu.

Just how better? Why PTR (which can be easily faked) is better than
IP, which determines uniquely the offending host?
As for triviality, many things are trivial to do and yet it is not the
reason to require people to

Does anyone know how to use a parallel-to-SCSI converter under Linux to

First, I recommend using a modem that cant be connected by telnet, ftp,

P.s. - I can get into ftp.cs.huji.ac.il with bezeqint account for a long

Greetings all..
I have been experiencing problems for a while now with transient bounces of
mail from Hotmail with a '554 Transaction failed' message (And not that
common, actually.. But still, it happens too often).
Searching the 'net, it seems that I am not alone.. But there doesn't seem
