My experience has been much the same as Jeff's... I have flown a good number of
my total hours in airplanes with heel brakes and I don't even think about where
the brakes are... your feet move, the plane reacts, you mentally adjust without
having to think about it. I don't notice much differenc
Just had to get in on this one.Have flown my taildragger with the original
landing retracts with cable brakes, mechanical drums connected together and
activated together as per the original design. They worked pretty well
except the drums would warp with heat issues. Then I went with the fixed
landing

There are photos of my top mounted ruder pedals on my web page at

I have no issues with my setup. I have a trigear and use the heel brakes quite
often at the same time as the pedals when needed. You need the brakes on take
off since you have no rudder

Another benefit of the taildragger (to start a small brushfire)...tailwheel
angle and rudder angle are automatically "close" to the same, so a little
tailwheel compensates for cros

There are a few at http://www.krnet.org/misc/toppedals/ . These are a bit
complicated, as pedals go, however. The photos are a bit disconcerting
because they're taken again
Larry
Just to clarify, are your rudder pedals as depicted in the dropbox photos
dimensionally as per plans?
Dene
Awesome Larry thank you!

Guys I am looking for photos of rudder pedals mounted on the top shelf in
stead of on the floor.
If I sit in the plane and measure from the top shelf to the poing the pedal
should make contact with my foot, it makes for very short pedals. Although
the rudder will have the correct movement range, it
I have been working on switching my pedals to be top mounted...the odd
shape of my fuselage makes it next to impossible to mount to the floor.
One thing i have to deal with is the brake cylinders wind up being in
front...that's ok. I am also rebuilding the pedals so that I don't risk

They work fine, same geometry as mounted on the floor but don't get
in the way of your heels when stretching
