Hi all.
I'm starting to set up my accounts on GnuCash and I'm actually stuck
understanding how (or even if) I should add the following.
I do own a music studio with a collection of vintage instruments. As the

Hi all.
I've received 100 bucks from a relative as a gift, which he sent to me via
bank wire transfer.
In my GnuCash accounts I do have one called "Income:Gifts Received" and I
also of course have the "Assets:Current Assets:Checking Account", where the
money from the gift finally landed.

Again with some "complex" (at least for me) transaction.
I bought an item for 1050 EUR, which I took from my EUR checking account.
Then the seller reimbursed 50 EUR because of some issues on the item. This
reimbursement in EUR was done via PayPal, where I do have both EUR and CHF

Hi Michael.
AFAIU in Switzerland you get the bank to lend you the money for the
mortgage, which in my case represents 65% of the price of my real estate.

Hi there.
When I reconcile my credit card, I'm faced with two dates:
- the date when the bill was created (e.g. 13.02.2024);
- the date when the bill was paid from my checking account (e.g. 28.02.2024)
When I reconcile, what date should I enter? The billing date or the date of

I'm partner and own stocks of the company I work for. This company is not

The stock value is defined once per year and dividends are then paid out.

Thanks for helping. In fact just reading your first sentence, made it
become clear: opening the books on 31.12.2023 means that every previous

I usually would register it the day that I've done the transaction, so that
I can trace each single credit card transaction. Of course I know that the
money has not yet been deducted - it will happen once a month when

Hi Chris.
Thanks for your input - it seems cumbersome to me, adding accounts for each
instrument I buy. Nevertheless, in my accounting ignorance, I think I
understand it and it looks very nice and detailed.

Hi Stan.
You're right - it's not GNC, it's my (lack of) accounting knowledge. I
might give a repeated read of chapter 2 - in the meantime I am still

me (and others) out.

This is what I had to learn as well!
I had the same issue, which was not logical to me...
Well, I took a note and refer to that when I have such transactions.
