There are two ways of doing suspend to ram (seemingly). One way
(standby) is fairly common but doesn't save much power. The other way
(ram) is not so common but saves more power. By default dapper defaults

kernels around than Ubuntu. A broken resume from hibernate rarely
results in complete data loss as the kernel buffers are usually flushed

This behaviour is controlled by rhythmbox's Status Icon plugin. Turning
off the plugin will prevent this from happening.

This is apparently fixed by http://cgit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-
plugins-ugly/commit/?id=3784de031dd4c6eaa3af94cf16c83e48df780264 . I
hope this patch makes it into Ubuntu 9.10 but given the timing I suspect
this is unlikely.

This just happened to me with an updated Ubuntu Lucid when I was
updating packages including a PPA for Xorg while on battery. Rather
strangely at one point I had two battery indicators in gnome-panel
/indicator-applet (with one smaller than the other) even though I have
only one battery but after t
