Alan, from what I can see, it's just supposed to delete files and not touch directories, any files name utmp or innd.pid. the ! prefixing the tests negates the test to pull the opposite. By using xtype it's just handling links differently. This command shouldn't be deleting your udev directory.

The os-prober program will find the different OS's on the separate partitions or Volumes and add them to grub.cfg when you run the update-grub command or the OS runs it. I have yet to see it not find them and add them(it usually adds ones you don't necessarily don't want like restore partitions.)

I haven't actually done it, but you should be able to boot to a live CD initialize the raid and LVM and then add a removable HD to the VG. Create new LV's the same size as your existing ones but make sure you create them on the removable PV then use dd or similar to clone the LV's. Once cloned
