It's similar to a Ubuntu install but not exactly the same. That said, it's
pretty straightforward and the XFCE/LXDE combo is quite nice. There's been
some work with Ubuntu and XFCE/LXDE on the x86 architecture in the way of
the U-Lite and Lubuntu projects but they're both still in beta.

I think you'd have to start with the V8 JavaScript engine. The
requirements listed for it are an ARM or x86 processor, however, so I
don't know how much work it would take to port it to another

You can install java-package from lenny but it didn't recognize any of
the tar.gz bundles. So instead I tried using alien on an RPM -- it
completely failed on the 64-bit version but I got a tiny bit further
with the 32-bit JDK. I must be missing something, however, as it won't

nly running Debian then mac-fdisk will partition your drive properly
for yaboot to work with it. I don't remember having this issue with
stable but the current testing builds have an issue where they only
create an 800 K New World boot partition when it actually needs to be
800 Mb.

I've only used the x86 version of QEMU but it's supposed to emulate
ARM as well as PPC. But it looks like PearPC is still around as well
as PSIM. I forgot all about PSIM -- its docs say they try to emulate

I had pretty good luck with Debian and BootX on an a beige G3 a few
years back -- I think I even had it booting off of an external SCSI
Iomega Jaz drive. You might also consider NetBSD which will install on
both "new world" and "old world" Mac PPC systems:

Did you un/plugging the USB devices? I haven't used the installers in
a while but I usually avoid testing and unstable ISOs because of past
problems. If you use the stable installer and choose the advanced
options., it'll actually ask if you want to install stable, testing,
or unstab

Went to sleep by closing lid, I meant. When in VT 7 with X running,
unit would not wake up from sleep after closing and opening lid -- no
keys had any effect. This changed once pbbutto

Naturally you are right I am no longer sure what the problem was I
was having. Wake up works fine in my iBook2.2 using DRM and DRIReinit
is not needed here. Sorry for my confusion

I am a Linux newbie with a major problem.
I did a minimum install (plus development tools) from
the Woody 3.0r1 CDs, the updated everything using
"dselect" to Sid over my slow internet connection. I
re-booted with the aim of installing X11, but at the
login prompt, the keyboard is unresponsive.

All-of-a-sudden, modconf stopped working --- I type
modconf at the prompt, there is disk activiety for a
few seconds, then I am returned to the prompt. Any
ideas.
